I had a great response to the start of The Green Baby, so here I am with another post for you all!
Since having Felicity, my eyes have been opened up to how we are affecting the planet. If we all make little steps of change then they will become big steps in protecting our planet. This blog series will explore the many different ways we can make a difference.
This week, I am looking at an eco friendly company called Little Earth Baby. They have a range of products that are all made from natural sustainable ingredients and they look very luxurious!
Before finding out more about this company and their ethos, I didn’t realise that what we put our babies in at night can also affect their sleep. It hadn’t dawned on me that in fact, the sleeping bags and blankets can help improve their sleep quite dramatically.
Felicity has been trying out the Little Earth Baby sleeping bag, and it has made a huge difference to her sleep pattern. It is made out of breathable bamboo, which cleverly regulates the baby’s temperature. This means you don’t need to buy loads of different sleeping bags with different togs and it is much more sustainable.
The same sized sleeping bag can be used for 0-2 year olds and is long enough for your baby to grow into. There is a very useful zip all the way around, which makes it a lot easier to do nappies in the middle of the night, whilst keeping her asleep. It has poppers to keep it secure so it can change when your baby grows. The design is gorgeous with an embroidered zebra on the front. Whilst, the added comforter that can be attached with a popper ensures safety at all times.
So here are the facts:
The sleeping bags are made out of 100% bamboo wadding and 100% organic cotton for the outer layer.
They are thermoregulating so you only need one sleeping bag all year around. In the cold weather, the bamboo becomes insulating and in the warm weather there are natural micro holes in the fibre that helps create a natural cooling system.
Bamboo is incredible because it is naturally antibacterial (how amazing is that?!) and also hypoallergenic. This makes it perfect for little ones and their sensitive skin.
It doesn’t contain any toxins or plastics that are found in most sleeping bags…(who knew that even normal sleeping bags have PLASTIC fibres in them??)
Despite being quite a lot more expensive than normal sleeping bags, Emma Bianco (founder/ CEO) explained to me that they were more sustainable because instead of having to buy lots of different sleeping bags to fit different seasons, you can rely on one and you don’t have to buy lots of different sizes because your baby has grown.
I do find it very useful that the sleeping bag is just one size. This way I feel that we will be able to get a lot of use out of the one item.
I have had to wash the sleeping bag in the washing machine, (the joys of having a reflux baby!) and it washed really well. It remains very soft and doesn’t shrink at all. I have always found that bamboo fibres wash better.
The difference in price is the only hindering factor because it is expensive. I justify this by the fact I won’t be needing another sleeping bag for a couple of years. When you break up the price, and the amount of days you use it, then it is actually is quite cost effective.
I am hopeful that eco friendly products will become more affordable. It is difficult for people who want to make a difference but simply can’t justify spending a huge amount of money on products.
Little Earth Baby is a small business that has been going for over a year. They are committed to helping the planet in more ways than one. They have partnered up with an organisation that cleans up the plastic from the sea. With every purchase made, they commit to clearing the ocean from plastic. They call themselves a ‘conscious brand’ rather than just eco friendly because not all things that are eco friendly are suitable for babies.
I would say that the Little Earth Baby sleeping bag is a staple in the bedtime routine. Felicity goes to sleep much quicker when in it and doesn’t sweat like she does with a normal sleeping bag or blanket. The Little Earth Baby also has blankets made from bamboo, which sound gorgeous AND a natural play mat. It is great to be getting something that is quality, and helping the world at the same time!
